Engraftment of leukemic cells in immunodeficient mice can be improved by incorporation of a humanized bone marrow microenvironment, formed by mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) and a suitable biomaterial. Various biomaterials ranging from ceramic calcium phosphate to extracellular matrix (ECM) gels were reported so far but their comparison is lacking.
