Abstract

Na otázku, co je to středověký prostor, by bylo možné odpovědět, že jde o struktury ohraničené architekturou. Když však téma trochu rozvedeme, rozšíří se náš pohled z budovy na město a z města na krajinu, v níž se stavba nachází. Základními kameny se tak stávají ulice, zdi, řeky a hory. Přestože je toto široké pojetí velmi zajímavé, zdá se nedostatečné, neboť pojímá prostor jako nehybný útvar. Ve skutečnosti však prostor představuje mnohem „plynulejší“ a komplexní veličinu, jejímž podstatným rysem je pohyb. Následující kapitola bude věnována úvaze právě nad rituálem (pohybem) jako součástí prostoru (nejen) ve středověkých dějinách umění.

Abstract (in English)

To the question of what a medieval space is, it could be answered that it is a structure bounded by architecture. However, if we expand on the topic a bit, our view will expand from the building to the city and from the city to the landscape in which the building is located. Streets, walls, rivers and mountains thus become the cornerstones. Although this broad concept is very interesting, it seems insufficient, as it conceives of space as a stationary structure. In reality, however, space is a much "smoother" and complex quantity, the essential feature of which is movement. The next chapter will be devoted to the reflection on the ritual (movement) as a part of space (not only) in the medieval history of art.
