Abstract
The research will explore the means with which contemporary Russia tries to challenge Western narrative about particular events and issues concerning Russia and the EU-Russia relations. Special focus is put on medial discourse and the media that are sponsored by Russian government and communicate either in English, or in native languages of EU member countries. More particularly, the paper will present an analysis of the discourse of two Russian English-speaking on-line media, RT (rt.com) and Sputnik International (sputniknews.com). Our research wanted to contribute to the recent research, which is focused on the role of Russian media as potential political instruments (first impulse). Second impulse is connected with the longer-term crisis in relations between Russia and the West, which could be observed especially since 2014.
