Epidémie smrtiacich chorôb ohrozovali ľudstvo už od nepamäti. Ich zásahy boli pritom často také radikálne, že ovplyvnili vývoj civilizácií takmer na celom svete.

Epidemics of deadly diseases were a threat to the human population through its history. Sometimes the impact of such epidemics were so radical and significant that they influenced the development of civilizations around the world.
