It is no surprise, then, that the Prague Spring of 1968 is one of the best known and most thoroughly researched events in Czechoslovak history. It seems only appropriate, therefore, especially following the fiftieth anniversary of the event in 2018, to establish the current “state of play”. The essay does not seek to provide a complete list of works concerning the Prague Spring and the occupation of 1968 – such a task would be impossible. Instead, the essay focuses on the most significant works and seek to capture and analyse the main trends in the research into and writing about this event. It focuses on the Western historiography – especially works written in English – as that contribution to the scholarship is the most numerous and, arguably, the most influential. It also pays brief attention to the work of German, Italian and French historians. ER -
