Abstract
The aim of the project is to determine the conceptual pathways of English idioms for expressing the emotion of ANGER. Roughly speaking, there are two main methodology sources for my dissertation. The first one is Langlotz (2006)’s division of idioms according to three parameters: compositionality, motivation and isomorphism. The second one is Kövecses (2020)’s very recently proposed framework, known under the title Extended Conceptual Metaphor Theory. However, although the initial theoretical framework, combining the two above-mentioned approaches, seems fairly straightforward, a number of challenges emerged in the course of the actual analysis. In my presentation, one of these challenges will be presented, supported by examples from the actual analysis.
