On se penche d’abord sur les pactes de lecture qui sont mis en valeur dans le domaine de la fiction et la non-fiction récentes pour pouvoir les appliquer tels quels ou redéfinis dans la traduction de ces genres. Comme le traducteur est un lecteur par excellence qui doit transmettre le message dans sa plus grande intégralité, il se voit confronté à la nécessité de bien examiner les limites entre la fiction et la non-fiction qui peuvent s’avèrer flous et perméables et, surtout, le/s pacte/s de lecture qu’il est censé de respecter. La question se pose si les paratextes et les métatextes qui explicitent - sincèrement ou non - les mobiles de l’auteur suffisent à ce but. À la base des écrits originaux en français et en anglais, à savoir le roman HHhH de Laurent Binet (2009), respectivement The Glass Room (2009) écrit par Simon Mawer, et leurs traductions en tchèque, langue de leur arrière-fond historique, nous allons examiner la nature des pactes sousjacents et vérifier leur respect de la part de l’auteur. Pour le deuxième roman la situation peut être paradoxale dans la mesure où, généralement, le lecteur de la fiction serait privé d’une lecture riche faute d’une traduction capable d’interpréter toutes les nuances stylistiques et autres, tandis que le lecteur de la prétendue fiction, une non-fiction masquée, souffrirait d’une traduction aussi riche que l’original (notament en anachronismes ou en falsifications). Une inégalité acceptée devant le texte où l’auteur sait plus que le lecteur peut dégrader en une inégalité où l’affirmation de l’auteur ne tient plus face à la connaissance du lecteur. Or la question se pose est-ce qu’une non-fiction peut aller jusqu’ à défavoriser le lecteur avisé, est-ce que le traducteur peut y remédier et au moyen de quelles démarches spécifiques. ER -
