Abstract

Historicky první podrobnější zprávy o pandemiích máme už z dob starověkého Říma. Jak si Římané pandemie vysvětlovali a jak se před nimi zkoušeli chránit? A mohly mory a stovky mrtvých „pohanů“ za strmě narůstající popularitu křesťanství? Práce brněnského religionisty Aleše Chalupy nachází paralely mezi tehdejší a dnešní situací.

Abstract (in English)

Historically earliest detailed descriptions of pandemics are from the Roman era. How did the Romans explain the pandemics, and how did they try to protect themselves? Were plagues and hundreds of dead "pagans" the cause of Christianity's increasing popularity? The work of Aleš Chalupa, a scholar of religion from Brno, pictures parallels between the ancient and contemporary situation.
