Anotace

O presente artigo analisa o tema urbano em Solidão (1939), de Irene Lisboa, uma das mais importantes autoras da primeira metade do século XX. Embora a problemática da cidade pertença às linhas de força na obra ireniana, esta não tem despertado, até agora, grande interesse académico. O presente artigo, portanto, desenvolve os trabalhos que a este tema foram consagrados (Morão 1993; Lopes 1994; Magalhães 1995), centrando-se na figura peripatética e na sua capacidade de observar o ambiente urbano, em especial a “paisagem” humana, retrato do povo humilde, com o qual a narradora sente um forte laço emocional. Mas apesar desta sintonia, a sensação primordial que anima o texto ireniano é, justamente, a solidão, como a inscrição de uma mulher insubmissa que ousou transgredir as convenções da época.

This article analyses the urban theme in Solidão (1939), by Irene Lisboa, one of the most important authors of the first half of the 20th century. Although the problematic of the city belongs to the lines of force in Irene's work, it has not, so far, aroused much academic interest. The present article, therefore, develops the works that have been dedicated to this theme (Morão 1993; Lopes 1994; Magalhães 1995), focusing on the peripatetic figure and her ability to observe the urban environment, especially the human "landscape", a portrait of the humble people, with whom the narrator feels a strong emotional bond. But despite this harmony, the primordial sensation that animates the text by Irene Lisboa is, precisely, solitude, as the inscription of an insubmissive woman who dared to transgress the conventions of the time.
