Abstract
Stroke is a major cause of mortality and disability worldwide. Approximately 20–30% of ischaemic strokes are consider to be cardioembolic. Cardioembolic strokes are severe, disabling with high rate of early and long-term recurrence. Both transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography are crucial tools in evaluation, diagnosis and management of patients with cardioembolic strokes and TIA's.
