Abstract

Stárnutí populace je považováno za jeden z největších výdobytků moderního člověka, stejně jako jedna z jeho největších výzev. Dynamika demografických proměn se v čase potkává s takovými fenomény, jako je klimatická krize a technologická revoluce, ale uvědomění jejich vzájemné provázanosti zatím naráží na řadu překážek. Patří k nim nezájem, nevědomost i aktivní odmítání. V příspěvku nabídnu k diskusi vybrané zkušenosti z projektu „HUMR: Možnosti využití humanoidního robota pro aktivní stárnutí seniorů a seniorek“. V rámci projektu pracujeme s robotem Pepprem a seniorkami z pražského Centra aktivního stárnutí organizace Život 90. Spolupráce je cestou od strachu a vyloučení, přes zvídavost, „empowerment“, humor a opojení, až po nudu a vyčerpání. Dialektika mezi software vybavením humanoidního robota, jeho fyzickými aspekty a seniorními uživateli dává nahlédnout do technologického ageismu moderních technologií a jejich tvůrců, stejně jako technologický pokrok podtrhuje naše zaostávání ve vnímání stáří jako plnohodnotné součásti životního kontinua. Otevřeme proto otázku využitelnosti konceptu „age-friendly“ (každému věku přátelskému) designu v technologiích jako nové cesty k technologicky vyspělejší a zároveň inkluzivnější společnosti.

Abstract (in English)

Population ageing is considered one of modern man's greatest achievements as well as one of his greatest challenges. The dynamics of demographic change are meeting phenomena such as the climate crisis and the technological revolution over time, but awareness of their interconnectedness has so far encountered many obstacles. These include disinterest, ignorance and active denial. In this paper, I will offer for discussion selected experiences from the project "HUMR: Possibilities of using a humanoid robot for active ageing of the elderly". Within the project we work with Pepper the robot and senior women from the Prague Centre for Active Ageing of the organisation Život 90. The collaboration is a journey from fear and exclusion, through curiosity, "empowerment", humour and intoxication, to boredom and exhaustion. The dialectic between the humanoid robot's software, its physical aspects, and its senior users provides insight into the technological ageism of modern technology and its creators, just as technological advances underscore our lagging perception of old age as a full part of the life continuum. We will therefore open up the question of the applicability of the concept of "age-friendly" design in technology as a new pathway towards a more technologically advanced yet inclusive society.
