Abstract

V originále

In this paper, I discuss various linguistic strategies to mark the distinction between counting parts of a plurality and reference to number concepts attested across a broad sample of typologically and genetically diverse languages. I propose that the attested marking patterns can be captured by assuming an underlying universal semantic structure that can be mapped onto a number of formal exponents which can pronounce either the whole structure or its part.
