Abstract
My paper deals with the ambivalent attitude of the Teutonic Order towards Lithuanian Dukes following the official conversion of Lithuania (1386/87). The Grand Master repeatedly concluded truces, peace or allied treaties with the mentioned Dukes, even though he simultaneously complained about their treachery concerning the alleged violations of these treaties. Political pragmatism of the Order went notably hand in hand with its propaganda against the Polish-Lithuanian Union, in which the Christianization process in Lithuania was questioned or directly denied.
