Abstract

V originále

This presentation aims to introduce activities and outcomes of the Fidentis project, particularly Fidentis Analyst - a software tool for forensic 3D facial identification. Fidentis Analyst is multi-platform open-source software designed for processing 3D human facial scans. Through a target-orientated user-friendly computer interface, the program enables to conduct a variety of 3D facial morphological analyses, many of them designed specifically for forensic purposes. Included are algorithms for automated landmark localization, face-to-face comparison, analysis of facial morphological variation via batch processing etc. Such features can be used to perform various practical or research-oriented tasks which would be otherwise challenging for forensic analysts dealing with forensic facial identification of persons in the three-dimensional digital environment. The program allows the users to acquire both numerical and visual representations of the results. In conjunction with other features, this is regarded as crucial in order to become a valuable tool for forensic analysts. The integral part of the Fidentis project is formed by a database of 3D virtual models of human faces (Fidentis 3D Face Database), which contains image data from approximately 2,650 individuals acquired by optical surface scanners. Based on practical examples, the presentation will reflect on the available functionalities and practical issues of the Fidentis Analyst software, as well as the basic structure and potentials for the Fidentis 3D Face database (e.g., reference data source or test dataset).
