Abstract

Publikace přináší v pěti sloupcích paralelně texty originálu a čtyř českých překladů Alice in Wonderland, včetně dvou nejstarších, které byly dosud prakticky nedostupné (Váňa 1902, Houdek 1904, Císař 1931, Skoumalovi 1961). Úvod a poznámkový aparát knihy upozorňuje - vedle některých vysvětlení k anglickému textu – především na otázky související s teorií a historií překladu, včetně některých aspektů týkajících se recepce textu. Mimo jiné přinášejí poznámky řadu důkazů pro zjištění, že Houdkův překlad byl ve skutečnosti převodem přes třetí jazyk, totiž z německého překladu Antonie Zimmermannové. Podle potřeby jsou doplněny i poznámky k některým řešením z dvou nejnovějších překladů (Čížková, Žák). Publikace je doplněna komentovaným bibliografickým soupisem všech vydání českých překladů i adaptací a ukázkami z ilustrací několika vydání zkoumaných textů.

Abstract (in English)

In five parallel columns, the publication presents texts of the original and four Czech translations of Alice in Wonderland (Váňa 1902, Houdek 1904, Císař 1931, Skoumalovi 1961), of which the two oldest ones were effectively unavailable to readers. The book's introduction and annotations discuss the texts mainly from the point of view of translation studies and translation history, including some issues related to the reception of the text. Among other things, the notes provide ample evidence for the conclusion that Houdek's translation was in fact a translation via a third language, viz. from the German translation by Antonia Zimmermann. Also included are occasional notes on solutions found in the two most recent translations (Čížková, Žák), which are not included in the book. The publication is supplemented by an annotated bibliography of all editions of the Czech translations and adaptations, as well as examples of illustrations from several editions of the four translations.
