Abstract

Italská Ravenna se během staletí stala doslova legendárním městem. Inspirovala secesní umělce, jako byl Gustav Klimt, ale dokázala se dostat pod kůži i módním návrhářům 21. století. S trochou nadsázky by se dalo říct, že se jedná o jednu ze superstar italské kultury. Kdo však Ravennu skutečně navštíví, je při nejmenším překvapen. Jde o malebné, ale jednoznačně provinční městečko. Slávu mu získala především jeho pradávná minulost, vetkaná do jednoduchých cihlových staveb. Abychom pochopili, proč se právě tyto, do jisté míry anonymní stavby staly epicentrem fenoménu, který se šířil napříč časem i prostorem, je třeba vstoupit do jejich interiéru a setkat se se zářícími obrazy, které se tam nacházejí. Před očima se člověku zjevují mozaikové dekorace, které v mihotavém světle lamp takřka ožívají vlastním životem. Příběh, který se za nimi skrývá, je příběh světa, v němž je obraz neodmyslitelně spjat s rituální životem. Výsledkem je strhující příběh lidské tvořivosti, který bude jádrem této přednášky.

Abstract (in English)

Over the centuries, Ravenna, Italy, has become a legendary city. It inspired Art Nouveau artists such as Gustav Klimt, but it has also managed to get under the skin of 21st century fashion designers. With a little exaggeration, one could say that it is one of the superstars of Italian culture. However, those who actually visit Ravenna are surprised to say the least. It is a picturesque but decidedly provincial town. Its fame is mainly due to its ancient past, woven into the simple brick buildings. To understand why these somewhat anonymous buildings have become the epicentre of a phenomenon that has spread across time and space, it is necessary to enter their interiors and encounter the glowing images found there. The mosaic decorations appear before one's eyes, almost taking on a life of their own in the flickering light of the lamps. The story behind them is the story of a world in which the image is intrinsically linked to ritual life. The result is a riveting story of human creativity, which will be at the heart of this lecture.
