Abstract

V originále

This paper presents an effort to provide a deeper insight into the relation of religion and politics on psychological level, that is on the relation of religious and political attitudes. To do so, it focuses on the process of religious conversion and the changes that converts perceive themselves. Does political orientation change together with the change in religious orientation? And if so, do such changes occur both on the liberalism—conservativism scale and on the left—right economic scale? To answer these questions, I gathered answers from relatively recent converts belonging to various traditions regarding their attitudes before and after conversion. Of course, the accuracy of such retrospectivity is always tricky, but the sole notion of perceived changes – no matter how close to reality they are – provides an important insight into the processes taking place during and after the conversion.
