Article is focusing on analysing the role of television in our everyday life emphasising the Giddens concept of ontological security. It links and compares Giddens account of the relations between consciousness, self and social encounters in his attempt to characterise the way the everyday life is structured and construction of ontological security. It also focuses on Winnicotts psychoanalytic account of the emergence of the individual and in particular of his discussion of transitional phenomena and potential space. This article, also, to some extent synthetically discusses some of the literature that deals with various aspects of the routinisation of social life, specifically in relation to tradition, ritual and myth with an emphasis on mechanism of construction of ontological security.
