Abstract
A method of shearing interferometry enabling us to determine the basic statistical quantities of randomly rough flat and randomly rough curved surfaces is presented. By means of this method one can evaluate the root-mean-square (RMS) values of heights and slopes, autocorrelations coefficients and one-dimensional height distribution functions of surface irregularities of the rough surfaces. Attention is paid to the rough surfaces exhibiting non-Gaussian statistics.
