Anotace

V originále

The thematic issue of the Theory and Practice in English Studies journal entitled "Many Ghosts of Hamlet" explores the unprecedented cultural currency of Shakespeare's most famous tragedy. Since new meanings are constantly being assigned to the play, the aim of this issue is to collect recent diverse perspectives on Hamlet’s afterlives, reimaginations and cultural experiences shaped by the story of the Danish prince. The issue offers articles on the following topics: theatre history of the eighteenth-century German Hamlet, Czech reception of Hamlet in Pilsen theatres, various non-dramatic Hamlet adaptations, Chinese and Japanese theatre history of Hamlet, textual variants in Polish translations of Hamlet, Romanian Hamlet translation tradition and Hamlet echoes in popular culture. Moreover, the issue then continues with „Interviews and Reviews“ section which offers interviews with Kareen Seidler about translating early modern German Hamlet and with Pavel Drábek about the theory and practice of Shakespeare translation in general. Lastly, the issue contains a review on two recent Czech Hamlet productions (ABC theatre in Prague 2021, South Bohemian Theatre in České Budějovice 2022) and a book review which focuses on the publication of a new Czech Hamlet translation by Filip Krajník (Větrné Mlýny, 2022) and which is complemented by an interview with the book illustrator Kateřina Fürbachová. The rich variety of academic articles, reviews and interviews demonstrate the almost unlimited scope of the culture influence of the many ghosts of Hamlet.
