Abstract

V originále

Among multiple types of divination used by the Mongolian Buddhism both in the professional educated monastic level or by lay users, the divination based on phenomena associated with the sounds and occurrence of specific bird species (magpie, crow, lark, owl, cuckoo) belongs to means reflected as the way of divination typical of the Mongolian tradition although earlier Tibetan and Chinese bird divination texts are known. The interpretation of bird signs is remembered also by the folk oral tradition as a sort of synecdochic image of the whole divinatory knowledge. This paper will introduce Mongolian manuscripts of bird related divination texts found in collections in the Czech Republic and some field remarks concerning the bird divination and interpreting bird signs among the Oirats.
