Abstract

Es handelt sich um eine Neuauflage des im Zisterzienserkloster Königsaal (Zbraslav) entstandenen Grundlagenwerks der böhmischen Mittelaltergeschichtsschreibung in der lateinische Sprache. Die Chronik hat zwei Autoren, der erste war Abt Otto, der zweite und wichtigste war ein anderer Abt Peter von Zittau. Die Chronik geht kurz auf die Regierungszeit von König Přemysl Otakar II. ein und konzentriert sich dann auf die Persönlichkeit des Klostergründers, König Wenzel II. Es verfolgt auch die Regierungszeit von König Johann von Luxemburg und das Schicksal seines jungen Sohnes, des späteren Königs und Kaisers Karl IV. Peter von Zittau Gelehrsamkeit, seine Fähigkeit, Informationen zu sammeln, und sein sehr wertvoller literarischer Stil machen die Chronik zu einem der herausragendsten Werke mittelalterlicher Produktion.

Jde o novou edici základního díla české středověké historiografie v latinském jazyku, které vzniklo v cisterciáckém klášteře na Zbraslavi. Kronika má dva autory, prvním byl opat Otto, druhým a zásadním pak další opat Petr Žitavský. Kronika stručně pojednává o vládě krále Přemysla Otakara II., a posléze se věnuje osobnosti zakladatele kláštera krále Václava II. Sleduje také vládu krále Jana Lucemburského a osudy jeho mladého syna, pozdějšího krále a císaře Karla IV. Erudice Petra Žitavského, jeho schopnosti opatřovat informace a vysoce hodnotný literární styl kroniku zařazují mezi nejvýznačnější díla středověké produkce.

Abstract (in English)

It is a new edition of the basic work of Czech medieval historiography in latin language, which was created in the Cistercian monastery in Zbraslav. The chronicle has two authors, the first was Abbot Otto, the second and most important was another Abbot Peter of Zittau. The chronicle briefly discusses the reign of King Přemysl Otakar II., and then focuses on the personality of the founder of the monastery, King Wenceslas II. It also follows the reign of King John of Luxembourg and the fate of his young son, the later King and Emperor Charles IV. Peter's erudition, his ability to gather information and his highly valuable literary style place the chronicle among the most outstanding works of medieval production.
