However, since carbohydrates do not contain a suitable chromophore in their structure, a conventional UV detector is unusable for the determination, a refractometric detector would require isocratic elution, and therefore an evaporative light scattering detector (ELSD) can be used to advantage. An HPLC-ELSD method was developed for milk sugar profiling. Lactose was determined and quantified in selected commercially available infant formula samples. ER -
