Abstract
Formative Assessment in English Language Teaching in Mozambique Abstract This study explores twelve secondary school English language teachers’ implementation of the assessment for learning initiative in Mozambique. The findings suggest that most teachers have not integrated Formative assessment into their classroom assessment practices. The teachers are unlikely to share assessment criteria with students, provide students with feedback that can advance learning, engage students in the assessment process, and use portfolio assessment. The results accentuate the need for teacher training in formative assessment. Keywords: school reform, formative assessment, language teachers, assessment practices, Mozambique
