Abstract

Historikové s oblibou píší příběhy. Ani v tomto případě tomu není jinak. Předkládají nyní čtenářům více jak stoletý příběh brněnské lékařské fakulty. Kromě přiblížení historie fakulty mají autoři ambici promluvit do debaty o stavu a perspektivách českého zdravotnického vzdělávání. Kladou si otázky o historických kořenech současného působení fakulty, o reflexi historické zkušenosti a jejím významu pro vzdělávací a vědeckou práci. Vše s ohledem na komplikované dějiny, velmi členitou organizační strukturu fakulty a její zapojení do systému zdravotní péče v celé republice. Dílem se proplétá několik závažných a provokativních otázek: Byl a stále ještě je zdrojem identity fakulty a jejích zaměstnanců medicínský humanistický étos péče o zdraví a život člověka? Obstojí fakultní soudržnost pod zvyšujícím se tlakem na excelenci výzkumu a z toho plynoucí oborové specializace? Je spolupráce různých oborů fakulty efektivní ve vztahu k potřebám studentů? Autoři ve své interpretaci dějin a současnosti Lékařské fakulty Masarykovy univerzity využili archivní materiály a rozhovory s osobami zapojenými do fakultního dění. Vznikla tak práce historická a současně velmi aktuální.

Abstract (in English)

Historians love to tell stories. This case is no different. They now present to the readers the history of the Brno Medical Faculty for more than a century. In addition to presenting the history of the Faculty, the authors aim to contribute to the debate on the state and prospects of Czech medical education. They ask questions about the historical roots of the Faculty's current activities, the reflection of historical experience and its relevance for educational and scientific work. All this is done against the background of the Faculty's complicated history, its highly structured organisational structure and its involvement in the health care system of the whole country. The work interweaves several serious and provocative questions: Was and is the medical-humanist ethos of caring for human health and life the source of the identity of the Faculty and its staff? Can faculty cohesion withstand the increasing pressure for research excellence and the resulting disciplinary specialisation? Is the collaboration between different faculty disciplines effective in meeting the needs of students? In their interpretation of the past and present of the Medical Faculty of Masaryk University, the authors have used archival material and interviews with people involved in the Faculty. The result is a work that is both historical and highly topical.
