Abstract
The title, while partially provocative, suggests that this text will examine Santa Maria in Pallara (San Sebastianello) at the Palatine, specifically focusing on the design of the composition of Christ in its apse, from a historiographical perspective. Additionally, it proposes considering the global perspective of the monument. The aim of this article is to challenge the notion of Santa Maria in Pallara as an exceptional artwork of the 10th century Rome, as well as to question the commonly held assumption of the Christ depicted in its apse having inherent Roman connotations, specifically examining the iconography from a non-local perspective.
