Abstract

Cuando se llevan a cabo los estudios de sociolingüística histórica, es preciso prestar atención a todos los posibles tipos de marcadores de restricción de uso que una voz haya podido tener en el pasado. Las restricciones de uso cambian en el transcurso del tiempo y voces que en el pasado se percibían como diafásica o diastráticamente marcadas, hoy en día pueden ser neutras, pueden mantener la restricción de uso, caer en el olvido o desarrollar otro tipo de restricción. Un buen indicador de restricción sociolingüística, explícitamente expresado, se halla en repertorios que reflejan la norma de una lengua dada, como son los diccionarios, gramáticas u otras obras que orientan sobre su uso. En esta comunicación presentamos un primer acercamiento al estudio del Diccionario de Autoridades desde el punto de vista sociolingüístico. En concreto, vamos a prestar la atención a las actitudes lingüísticas negativas, ejemplificadas en los casos de voces calificadas como bajas, plebeyas y vulgares. Nos interesará saber qué tipos de actitudes negativas se escondían detrás de estas calificaciones y si la restricción apuntaba solo a los parámetros sociolingüísticos o si las actitudes negativas eran, de hecho, multipolares y se extendían también a otros tipos de variación, como sería, por ejemplo, la variación diatópica y el prestigio de determinadas variedades regionales del español en detrimento de otras.

Abstract (in English)

When conducting historical sociolinguistic studies, it is necessary to pay attention to all possible types of usage restriction markers that a voice may have had in the past. Usage restrictions change over time, and voices that in the past were perceived as diaphasic or diastratically marked, today may be neutral, may maintain the usage restriction, fall into oblivion, or develop another type of restriction. A good indicator of sociolinguistic restriction, explicitly expressed, is found in repertoires that reflect the norm of a given language, such as dictionaries, grammars or other works that provide guidance on its use. In this paper we present a first approach to the study of the Diccionario de Autoridades from a sociolinguistic point of view. Specifically, we are going to pay attention to negative linguistic attitudes, exemplified in the cases of voices qualified as low, plebeian and vulgar. We will be interested in knowing what types of negative attitudes were hidden behind these qualifications and whether the restriction was aimed only at sociolinguistic parameters or whether the negative attitudes were, in fact, multipolar and extended also to other types of variation, such as, for example, diatopic variation and the prestige of certain regional varieties of Spanish to the detriment of others.
