Abstract
The depiction and imagination of magical practice has, through time, mostly under the influence of artists, as well as prominent practitioners, evolved into a broad and diverse system of symbols. In the post-modern magical milieu, represented by the emergence of syncretic practices revolving around the change of reality to one’s own benefit, these practices have taken upon forms never experienced before. The implementation of information technology, popular culture, and the seemingly never-ending imagination of visual artists, the modern practices are often a colorful mixture of the traditional and the modern. This bundle of creative expression is affecting not only the depictions of said practices within the entertainment industry, but at the same time, serves as an inspiration for the contemporary community of practitioners. This presentation will focus on several examples from popular culture, representing the various versions of how a traditional magical practice can be reimagined for the needs of modern magicians, as well as how it is presented to the audience.
