Abstract

Na křesťanské kostely lze narazit i na zcela překvapivých místech, třeba uprostřed íránského Isfahánu, kde již od 17. století stojí velkolepý arménský chrám svatého Spasitele, běžně nazývaný „Vank“. Chrám je krásnou ukázkou prolínání islámské a křesťanské stavební tradice, které má však v oblasti jižního Kavkazu poměrně dlouhou tradici. Jak se ve středověkých arménských kostelech objevily perské stalaktitové klenby? Čím naopak arménští kameníci v historii zcela vynikali? Jaká je role umění a architektury ve světě proměnlivých hranic a kde vlastně leží hranice pozdně antického světa? K cestám za Černé moře se vrátíme s archeologem Jiřím Macháčkem a historikem umění Ivanem Folettim v desátém pokračování podcastu Středověk (jinak) trvá.

Abstract (in English)

Christian churches can also be found in surprising places, such as in the middle of Isfahan, Iran, where the magnificent Armenian Church of the Holy Saviour, commonly called "Vank", has stood since the 17th century. The temple is a beautiful example of the fusion of Islamic and Christian building traditions, which, however, has a rather long tradition in the South Caucasus region. How did Persian stalactite vaults appear in medieval Armenian churches? What, on the other hand, did Armenian stonemasons quite excel at throughout history? What is the role of art and architecture in a world of shifting borders, and where do the borders of the Late Antique world actually lie? We will return to our travels across the Black Sea with archaeologist Jiří Macháček and art historian Ivan Foletti in the tenth installment of the podcast The Middle Ages (Differently) Lasts.
