Abstract

V roce 1954 byla v reakci na druhou světovou válku uzavřena takzvaná Haagská úmluva, která v případě budoucích ozbrojených konfliktů zavazuje k ochraně kulturního dědictví. S úmyslným ničením památek se ale napříč moderními dějinami setkáváme i mimo otevřené konflikty: jedním z nejvíce postižených regionů je v tomto ohledu patrně jižní Kavkaz. Z jakých důvodů se památky stávají terčem útoků? Mají historické stavby hodnotu jen pro archeology a kunsthistoriky, nebo s jejich ztrátou mizí kus každého z nás? Abstract (in English)

In 1954, in response to the Second World War, the so-called Hague Convention was concluded, committing to the protection of cultural heritage in the event of future armed conflict. However, the deliberate destruction of monuments has been encountered throughout modern history, even outside open conflict: one of the most affected regions in this respect is probably the South Caucasus. For what reasons are monuments targeted? Are historic buildings only of value to archaeologists and art historians, or does a piece of each of us disappear with their loss? And why is there silence about the destruction of Armenian cultural heritage?
