Abstract
The purpose of this talk was to reflect on the significance of the humanities (and particularly the historical sciences) in a process of rebuilding cities destroyed by seismic events. It is not, in my opinion, first and foremost a matter of documentation; rather, the humanities must ask questions, even uncomfortable ones, of an ethical and moral nature.
