Abstract (in Czech)

Přednáška je zaměřena na dvousetletou historii Chrámu Krista Spasitele v Moskvě, který je označován za ruský národní chrám. Do této stavby materializovaly politické elity svou představu o „ruské národní identitě“ a také skrze tuto stavbu se pak svůj narativ snažily prosadit jak u místního obyvatelstva, tak směrem za hranice. V přednášce pohlížíme na zlomové momenty v historii Chrámu Krista Spasitele – ne jako vyjádření jednolité a dané „ruské národní identity“– ale jako momenty, v nichž je možné (a nutné) pozorovat různé názorové proudy v ruské společnosti a ptát se proč a jakým způsobem zvítězily právě ty proudy, které zvítězily.

Abstract (in English)

The presentation focuses on the two-hundred-year history of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow, which is referred to as Russia's national cathedral. The political elites materialized their idea of "Russian national identity" in this building, and also through this building they tried to promote their narrative both among the local population and abroad. In this lecture, we look at the turning points in the history of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour – not as at expressions of a uniform and given "Russian national identity" – but as at moments in which it is possible (and necessary) to observe different currents of opinion in Russian society and to ask why and how certain currents prevailed.
