Abstract

AS WE ARE 12. 9. –⁠ 12. 11. 2023 Vernisáž proběhne 12. 9. v 17 h. Výstava As We Are představí tvorbu v New Yorku žijící fotografky Marie Tomanové, pro jejíž tvorbu jsou typická témata identity, genderu a svobody. V Dukle představí sérii portrétních fotografií pocházejících především z jejího projektu New York New York z roku 2021. V portrétní tvorbě Marie Tomanové je zcela zásadní myšlenkou empatické propojení mezi dílem a divákem – možnost identifikovat se s jiným člověkem a načerpat z tohoto spojení sílu. Je to inkluzivní proces, který lidem umožňuje najít se v díle, a hraje podstatnou roli v důležitosti, kterou Tomanová přisuzuje individualitě a svobodě. Být svobodným, být sám sebou, inspiruje a podporuje i ostatní v hledání své cesty a naplňování svých snů. Znamená to cítit se dobře ve vlastní kůži, ve vlastní identitě, ať je jakákoliv. Portréty vystihují fotografované jedince přesně takové, jací jsou, a stejně tak Tomanovou. Oba si nárokují právo býti sami sebou, přítomni okamžiku, viditelní a viděni. Portrét je důkazem toho, že jsme. Dílo Tomanové můžeme zasadit do kontextu stále silnějšího a důležitějšího hlasu mladé kultury, který přetváří definice genderu, společnosti, kultury a možná je také součástí procesu zažehnutí nenápadné, avšak velmi nutné ideologické revoluce. Abstract (in English)

AS WE ARE 12. 9. - 12. 11. 2023 The opening will take place on 12 September at 5 pm. The exhibition As We Are will present the work of New York-based photographer Marie Tomanová, whose work is characterised by themes of identity, gender and freedom. In Dukla, she will present a series of portrait photographs, mainly from her 2021 New York New York project. In Marie Tomanová's portrait work, the empathic connection between the work and the viewer - the possibility of identifying with another person and drawing strength from this connection - is a fundamental idea. It is an inclusive process that allows people to find themselves in the work, and plays a significant role in the importance Tomanová places on individuality and freedom. Being free to be oneself inspires and encourages others to find their way and pursue their dreams. It means feeling comfortable in one's own skin, in one's own identity, whatever it may be. The portraits capture the individuals photographed exactly as they are, and so does Toman. Both claim the right to be themselves, present in the moment, visible and seen. The portrait is proof that we are. We can place Tomanová's work in the context of the increasingly powerful and important voice of youth culture, which is reshaping definitions of gender, society, culture, and is perhaps also part of the process of sparking a subtle but very necessary ideological revolution.
