Abstract
The aim of the paper is to present case studies based on radiocarbon data of the middle and late Bronze Age in Moravia. In Moravia, as in neighbour regions, attention has been paid to radiocarbon dating of skeletal burials from the early and middle Bronze Age (Peska 2012; 2019; Šabatová – Parma 2019; Šabatová et al. 2020). Measurements from the bones of buried individuals already give us a good idea of the beginning of the middle Bronze Age as well as the chronological position of the accompanying inventory of periods R BB1 and R BB2-C1 and their relations with surrounding regions. However, with the increasing part of cremation burials in the middle Bronze Age, the scope for direct dating of the skeletons is decreasing. We want to present three approaches that have so far provided information on the dating of the Urnfield period burials. Several data are available from exceptional regular skeletal burials dated to this period. Other data come from archaeobotanical sampling of grave pit infills. And there is a first set of data that is based on dating carbonized bones, however, it is loaded with the old wood effect. Even so, it has provided information that is proving to be important for research into the burial sites of the Urnfields.
