Abstract
The Adventures of China Iron is presented as a queer rewriting of the foundational Argentine literary epic El gaucho Martín Fierro and a reconfiguration of the figure of the gaucho as such. This chapter analyses the novel to discuss issues related to the presentation and reception of peripheral literatures in the global literary market as well as their submission to Western universalist values.
