This talk discusses modal particles and negation in bouletic contexts and argues for a functional sequence based on syncretism patterns. It also argues that expletive negation fits in this functional sequence as a lower bouletic modal. Data are drawn from languages with modal particles as well as languages without: e.g. Modern Greek, Croatian, Albanian, French, Hungarian a.o.
