Abstract

V originále

In some patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) mornings are associated with a higher in- cidence of symptoms, which can negatively affect patients’ functioning during their daily activities. There is a lack of data however evaluating the relationship between morning symptoms and physical activity. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the effect of morning symptoms on the level of physical activity in these patients. The results of this study confirmed that there is a reduced number of steps in patients with morning symptoms com- pared to those with none or mild morning symptoms (p = 0.013). In patients with morning symptoms, physical activities with moderate (p = 0.043) and vigorous (p = 0.035) intensity/day were significantly lower compared to the patients without morning symptoms. This study suggests that morning symptoms negatively impact on level of physical activity during the day in patients with COPD. Therefore, the assessment and treatment of morning symptoms should be an integral part of comprehensive individualized care for these patients.
