Abstract
The paper focused on the Ruthenian lands (contemporary Belarus and Ukraine) of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania as an object of clash between the Jagiellonians and the Riurikid dynasty. Analyzed was the role of the confessions and the Churches as a soft power of the dynasties and elites in the pursuit of a very concrete political goal: to dominate the Ruthenian territory. To understand cultural importance of that process, author compared conclusions of the research with the Russian historical narratives. Supposedly, these ideological constructs tend to cover the colonizing wars of the Muscovy and later Imperial Russian state.
