Abstract

Partindo do desafio genológico lançado pelo subtítulo «falso conto gótico» que acompanha o título do conto «Negra sombra que me assombras» (Gente Melancolicamente Louca, 2015), o presente capítulo debruça-se sobre várias manifestações do gótico na ficção de Teresa Veiga, atentando ao mesmo tempo na subversão de esquemas e, consequentemente, na sua abertura semântica. Para cumprir este objetivo, a análise baseia-se no conceito do gótico (Gothic) como categoria estética aberta à transferência e circulação transnacional. Neste sentido, existem motivos e tópicos que são caraterísticos para a estética do gótico e que podem ser detetados nas narrativas veiguianas. Trata-se sobretudo do tópico da mansão senhorial, da personagem feminina em situação invulgar (perseguida, seduzida, morta) e da figura de villain.

Abstract (in English)

This chapter, inspired by a challenge introduced by the subtitle «falso conto gótico» in the short story «Negra sombra que me assombras» (Gente Melancolicamente Louca, 2015), analyses the fiction by Teresa Veiga aiming to detect the Gothic strand as well as the subversion of some Gothic formulas and their consequent semantic extension. To achieve this goal, the analysis is based on the conception of the Gothic as a category opened to transfer and transnational circulation. There are some Gothic tropes and topics in the stories by Teresa Veiga which can be conceived in this way, for example the mansion, the feminine figure in some queer situation (persecuted, seduced, dead) and the villain hero.
