N2 - The service for abstracting and editing mathematical content zbMATH Open, which also offers a formula search, is constantly being developed. Since the beginning of 2021, zbMATH Open has been open for public access. To leverage the opportunities of some recent developments in zbMATH Open and for formula search, we examine the state of the art in math search engines and their applications. Also, based on our investigation, we present several proposals for improvements to the formula search of zbMATH Open.
