Abstract
The presentation shows a new way of deriving Czech vowels. It comes from observing palatalization patterns in Czech. It shows not only the solution to two problems concerning change of a velar into a palatal within the framework of Precedence-free phonology, but also a completely new representation of vowels within this system.
