Abstract

V originále

This presentation will explore the context of the psychedelic subculture in its multiple facets with particular attention to the connection between psychedelics, spirituality and mental health movements. The analysis will take historical cultural and ethnographic perspectives. The use of psychedelics and mind-altering substances for religions and spiritual purposes has a long and diverse history. I identify the culmination for the contemporary world in the Psychedelic Renaissance, a descriptive title of the current set of events in psychedelic exploration which finds it roots in the 60’ and 70’ counterculture. Often associated with utopistic and idealistic values, the world of psychedelic culture is rife with controversies which touch traditional tribal cultures and corporatization as much as the revival or reconstruction of a perceived lost spirituality. There are many voices and opinions which interconnect the various factions which are part of this which vary from exclusivism to pluralism and confronting legal and politico-cultural issues each with their own justifications and interpretations forming a discourse which is becoming increasingly complex.
