Abstract

V originále

This chapter explains the research design and the decisions about the methodology made for the empirical research. It also reflects on the challenges encountered during the research process. It justifies the selection of the nine countries in which the focus group discussions were conducted; explains the rationale of having three sociodemographic groups for each country case involved in the focus group discussions and outlines the criteria for the selection of the participants. Furthermore, it documents how the focus group discussions were prepared and implemented, providing details about the development of the discussion guide, recruitment of the participants, modes of the discussions and other relevant aspects of the fieldwork. The chapter also discusses the process of recording, transcription and translation of the focus group discussions and provides characteristics of the text corpus produced. A substantial part of the chapter is dedicated to an explanation of the analytical approach and the analysis of the translated transcripts of the focus group discussions. It presents the development of the coding frame, coding procedure and assessment of intercoder agreement. It finally outlines the key parameters of the comparative analysis and the forms of its findings.
