Abstract

En la historia de la evolución del diccionario de la Real Academia Española podemos percibir que los cambios en su macroestructura y microestructura a veces tienen una forma de curvas sinusoidales u oleadas, ya que conforme prestamos atención a determinados fenómenos, vemos que puede haber ediciones sin apenas cambios seguidas por otras en las que el aumento cuantitativo de entradas o acepciones y las enmiendas cualitativas son considerables. En la presente comunicación, prestaremos atención a la edición del DRAE-1884, una de las más innovadoras de todo el siglo XIX, como han probado fehacientemente diversos trabajos (Blanco Izquierdo y Clavería Nadal, eds., 2021, entre otros). Ahora bien, en los estudios acerca del DRAE-1884, todavía hay lagunas de conocimiento que llaman la atención. Una de ellas es el léxico diafásica y diastráticamente marcado, aquí ejemplificado en la parcela de voces de origen gitano, marcadas en el diccionario como “Del caló”. A primera vista, puede parecer una nota de etimología –otro tema destacado de dicha edición–, pero si la miramos con más atención, vemos que encierra a la vez una marcación del registro de uso (Buzek 2013). Como el DRAE-1884 fue la primera edición del DRAE con una entrada significativa del léxico de origen gitano, nos interesará su ámbito de uso, es decir, si se junta con otros marbetes y a qué áreas temáticas pertenecían los gitanismos en aquel entonces según el DRAE-1884. Al mismo tiempo, procuraremos aportar documentación textual coetánea para poder corroborar hasta qué punto el tratamiento lexicográfico correspondía a la realidad de su tiempo.

Abstract (in English)

In the history of the evolution of the dictionary of the Real Academia Española we can perceive that the changes in its macrostructure and microstructure sometimes have a form of sinusoidal curves or waves, since as we pay attention to certain phenomena, we see that there can be editions with hardly any changes followed by others in which the quantitative increase of entries or meanings and the qualitative amendments are considerable. In the present communication, we will pay attention to the edition of the DRAE-1884, one of the most innovative editions of the entire 19th century, as has been proven by several works (Blanco Izquierdo and Clavería Nadal, eds., 2021, among others). However, in the studies on the DRAE-1884, there are still gaps in knowledge that attract attention. One of them is the diaphasic and diastratically marked lexicon, here exemplified in the plot of voices of gypsy origin, marked in the dictionary as “Del caló”. At first glance, this may appear to be a note on etymology-another prominent theme of that edition-but if we look at it more closely, we see that it encloses at the same time a marking of the register of usage (Buzek 2013). As the DRAE-1884 was the first edition of the DRAE with a significant entry of the lexicon of Gypsy origin, we will be interested in its scope of use, i.e., whether it joins with other tags and to which subject areas Gypsyisms belonged at that time according to the DRAE-1884. At the same time, we will try to provide contemporary textual documentation in order to corroborate to what extent the lexicographical treatment corresponded to the reality of the time.
