Abstract
The paper presents the discussion of some aspects of local and global properties of classical concepts of calculus of variations in the r-th order field theory on fibered manifolds within the framework of the variational sequence. The global representation of the physically relevant terms of the variational sequence is constructed and the properties of Euler-Lagrange and Helmholtz-Sonin mappings are discussed.
