Very high bromide intake (i) increased the relative weight of the thyroid, notably in animals fed the low-iodine diet, (ii) strikingly decreased the amount of radioiodide accumulated in the thyroid of all animals, (iii) significantly shortened the biological half-life of iodine in the thyroid, etc. These changes were caused, with high probability, by an increase of iodine elimination by kidney due to an excess of bromide.
