Abstract
The scaling index method, a part of the theory of chaos, was applied to the determine the risk of mortality of patients after myocardial infarction. It was compared with ejection fraction, late potentials, baroreflex sensitivity, SDDN index and ventricular ectopic beats. The scaling index alpha was better indicator of risk of mortality than the standard risk factors.
