Abstract
The main objectives of the study were to confirm the validity of the gyrodactylid subgenera and discuss relationships of gyrodactylids within the subgenus G. Limnonephotus. Combined ITS1 and ITS2 rDNA sequences were used to infer a phylogenetic relationship among 31 Gyrodactylus species from four subgenera. Neighbour-joining and maximum parsimony analyses resulted in three well-supported clades, reflecting the Gyrodactylus subgenera; species of the G. Mesonephrotus and the G. Metanephrotus subgenera clustered together in one clade.
