N2 - A horizontal bath for studying multicellular heart preparations convenient for pharmacological studies is presented. The technique enables the experimenter to obtain valuable data from multicellular samples of mammalian heart tissue. The preparations can be isolated from different parts of the heart of different species of laboratory animals. Stimulated twitches are recorded using a special software. Several parameters can be calculated from the recordings. This system makes it possible to use one preparation for several, even long lasting experiments and thus to minimise the number of sacrificed animals.
