Cyanocomplexes containing bridging cyano ligands are attractive group of compounds as they may serve as models for the study of various physical phenomena associated with magnetism.Systems with various dimensionalities can be constructed using the 'brick and mortar' method. The dimensionality of the formed system can be controlled by a suitable choice of N-donor ligands coordinated to the cationic central atom (brick). The linking of the complex cations is made possible by the cyanocomplex anions (mortar). In search for new low-dimensional systems we have used the multi-N donor ligands dien (dien=N-(2-aminoethyl)-1,2-etylenediamine)and aepn (aepn=N-(2-aminoethyl)- 1,3-propanediamine). Several new tetracyanonickellate compounds were prepared and characterized by X-ray diffraction, and the resulting materials include oligonuclear and low-dimensional structures.
